Progeo Monitoring of North America was founded in 2008 by Clark Gunness, and is based in part on his 25 years of experience in the leak location and repair he has done in buildings and civil structures such as landfills and lagoons.
Mr. Gunness, a graduate of Harvard University, started his career in the roofing industry, installing both asphalt and pitch hot roofs, then the single-ply elastomeric membranes. He translated product literature for two roofing manufacturers from Europe, and was the first to apply their membranes in the U.S. and Canada.
He also spent years performing quality assurance services for the environmental lining industry, and has consulted on issues of environmental membranes and concrete protection barriers on 5 continents.
Mr. Gunness was involved in several leak detection projects in 2004 and was looking for in-place, automatic systems for leak detection. He discovered Progeo Holdings, a German company. At that time, Progeo had no representation or partners in North America, so Mr. Gunness installed several Progeo systems and finally formed Progeo Monitoring of North America to sell and install these products, and to provide other locally sourced leak location services.
Progeo Holdings is a public corporation headquartered in Großbeeren near Berlin (Teltow-Fläming district). It is the world’s premier manufacturer and developer of technology-based electronic and computer controlled leak detection systems to monitor the waterproofing or lining membranes on most commercial and civil projects.
These include flat commercial and green roofs, parking decks, plazas and earth covered buildings, pipelines and tunnels, lagoons, landfills and other waste disposal sites. The main feature of these systems is that they provide early warning and location of leakage which might occur during the life of the membrane system, protecting the structure and the environment.
PROGEO was founded in 1993, and originated from an engineering company for environmental technology. The original company had patented a process for complete leak monitoring of disposal site linings in 1990.
Under the leadership of Andreas Rödel, the company founder and CEO, PROGEO has become a leading international supplier of leak monitoring systems. PROGEO has two major product lines for civil and building monitoring. These are:
PROGEO owns a number of German and European patents. In 1994 PROGEO received the prestigious Berlin/Brandenburg Innovation Prize for its Geologger® system in the category of Special Prize for Environmental Technology. Geologger® has been installed in Germany, Spain, the Benelux and Croatia.
In October 1997 PROGEO Holding AG was founded as the parent company, and is one of the few listed public companies from the German region of Brandenburg. PROGEO shares are freely traded on the stock exchanges in Frankfurt/Main, Berlin-Bremen,Stuttgart and Munich as well as via the electronic Xetra trading system.
